Peraton Military Bowl - The 2021 Military Bowl presented by Peraton benefiting the USO will be held on Monday, December 27, at the Naval-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland, the Military Bowl Foundation announced today. Postseason college football bowl games in the National Capital Region continue to feature teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference and American Athletic Conference. Kick-off is at 2:30 PM. ET and the Bowl airs on ESPN.

"We can't wait to get back on the field and enjoy another exciting Military Bowl!" Military Bowl Foundation President and Executive Director Steve Beck said. It concludes Bowl Week with events for the teams and fan events in Annapolis, including the Military Bowl Parade, traditionally led by the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales. The Bowl also honors Medal of Honor recipients and provides free tickets to service members through the Tickets for Troops program.

Steve Beck, President and Managing Director of the Military Bowl, said. Since moving to Annapolis in 2013, the Military Bowl has averaged 31,492 fans in attendance, filling 93% of the arena's capacity.

The 2021 Military Bowl, scheduled to play Boston College against East Carolina, was canceled a day before the game due to the covid outbreak in the Boston College team.

Official Ncaa College Football 2022/23 Military Bowl Patch: Ucf & Duke

Tickets go on sale in the fall. Proceeds from the bowl will benefit the USO and Patriot Point, the Military Bowl Foundation's retreat for wounded, ill and injured soldiers, their families and caregivers. Held at the official Military Bowl tailgate before games and at all Bowl hospitality areas.

This year's game between Duke and UCF is on Wednesday, December 28 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Tickets are currently on sale at /tickets. Kick-off is at 2pm. ET and the games are televised on ESPN.

To make the event greener, the Bowl has partnered with local nonprofit Annapolis Green to recycle all plastic and aluminum products in the area. All other products purchased for use in this field are certified compostable and collected separately by Veteran Compost, a DC-area company founded by US Army veteran Justen Garrity.

"The Military Bowl honors and supports our nation's service members, but we also want to do our part to help preserve the planet for future generations," said Military Bowl President and Executive Director Steve Beck. "We are excited to benefit from the expertise of Annapolis Green and others and look forward to a great event that minimizes the space."

Each of the players' Bowl Bound shirts this year, courtesy of Vapor Elemental wear, is made from 16 recycled plastic bottles.

As part of the collaboration, Bowl Season and UNIFI will host a Sustainability Committee covering six major Bowl games, including the Military Bowl. Additionally, The Military Bowl has partnered with UNIFI to collect bottles from the game. These bottles will be REPREVE and used to make Military Bowl fan gear, volunteer gear, and staff apparel.

Proceeds from the bowl go to the USO and Patriot Point, a retreat for wounded, ill and injured soldiers, their families and caregivers for the Military Bowl Foundation. It has been held in the Washington metropolitan area every December since 2008. The game was originally played at the Robert F. Cady Memorial Stadium in Washington, D.C. and moved to Naval-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland in 2013.

In the early stages of planning, the game was known as the Congressional Bowl, but was first played in 2008 as the EagleBank Bowl, sponsored by EagleBank, a financial institution in Washington. The game became the Military Bowl, where Northrop Grumman was the title sponsor from 2010 to 2019.

As of December 20, 2020, several bowls have been canceled due to a lack of available teams. Once again, the Military Bowl, which was scheduled to feature teams from the American Athletic Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference, also did not get a team, and on December 21, 2020, the organizers announced that the 2020 bowl not played.

The idea for the EagleBank Bowl was conceived in December 2006 by Marie Rudolph and Sean Metcalf in Washington, D.C.

The bowl game was one of two games sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for the 2008 college football bowl season, the other being the St. Louis Bowl game. Thucydides And Plutarch: Pericles And The Beginning Of The Peloponnesian War Between Athens And Sparta

Pericles was born in 495 BC. His father Xanthippos was a wealthy politician and military leader. Pericles' mother Agaristis came from the ancient and wealthy family of the Alcmaeonids of Athens. Cleisthenes' grandfather helped remove the tyrant Peisistratus from the city and instituted constitutional reforms that further strengthened Athenian democracy.

According to Plutarch and Herodotus, a few days before the birth of Pericles, his mother Agaristes dreamed that she would give birth to a lion. Pericles' political opponents would often use this symbol to defame him. A few days later, when Agarist gave birth, it was revealed that Pericles had a strangely elongated head, which many assumed was the true meaning of her dream.

Pericles was nicknamed "the genius" because his head resembled a sea onion, and he was the target of many playwrights and poets throughout his time in Athens. Every picture we have of Pericles shows him wearing a helmet to cover his unique figure and to celebrate his position as the leader of the Athenian army.

The son of privilege, Pericles received a good education. Pythocleides and the Sophist Damon taught him music. Zeno taught him about the physical world. and the famous philosopher Anaxagoras taught him philosophy. Anaxagoras and Pericles were very close, and the young councilor often turned to his old teacher for advice and guidance. Plutarch also suggests that Pericles learned sophistry from Damon under the guise of music. Plutarch notes that many people saw the young Pericles as a villain—an aspect of his character that was emphasized by his political enemies.

Although he was privileged, Pericles understood the chaos and confusion of the world. At the age of ten, his father Xanthippos was expelled from Athens. Harassment was a common political practice in Athens at the time and often occurred when a politician was perceived to be more powerful or a greater threat to his opponents. No citizen who was hated by the city was expelled. Ten years later they can return with their current social and economic status.

Xanthippus did not serve for a full decade. A few years after he fled, he was remembered for protecting Athens from the Persian invasion, because he was considered one of the great military leaders of Athens. Xanthippus was exonerated when he led the Athenian navy to a decisive victory over the Persians at the Battle of Mycale in 479 BC, the battle that marked the end of the second Persian invasion of Greece. Xanthippus died a few years later, the hero who ensured that his son could live the life he chose without prejudice.

Before we move on to Pericles' rise to political power, a brief survey of Athenian politics must be done. The Athenian democracy was divided into two classes: Lords and Generals. Archons were the chief lawyers of Athens, as well as other Greek cities, and they took over whenever a king or tyrant was not in power.

However, life takes people in unexpected ways, and in the 20s, Pericles entered the political arena. The first written political work of Pericles was in 472 BC, when he supported the famous play of Aeschylus, called Persia. Here Pericles served as Choragos, a wealthy citizen who took on the task of the state whether they wanted it or not. The position of commissioning the Choragus was one of the few duties of the Lord, and although it was imposed on wealthy citizens, Pericles seems to have preferred to assign this specific task.

Aeschylus' Persian describes the Battle of Salamis in which Themistocles led Athens to victory over Persia. At the time Themistocles was the leader of the democratic party and the play showed his achievements. The aristocratic faction led by Cimon saw Pericles agreeing to take on this task as a sign that Pericles was with this political group.

Themistocles had many enemies, but the greatest of them was Sparta, Cimon's friend. Both Cimon and the Spartans claimed that the rich few had all the power. Themistocles was abandoned and forced to leave Greece altogether after Sparta accused him of conspiring against them. Ironically, Themistocles found refuge with the Persian king, Artaxerxes I, the son of the man Themistocles had conquered all those years. Artaxerxes I welcomes a man with enough talent to defeat his father and make Themistocles governor of Magnesia where he spends the rest of his life.

Throughout the political career of Pericles Cimon would be his main political opponent. Like Pericles, Cimon's father, Miltiades, was a warrior who led the Greeks to victory in the Battle of Marathon. Cimon's family had much more wealth than Pericles and used it to improve their public image by inviting the citizens to dinner every night. In contrast, Plutarch describes Pericles as restless with his work.

Plutarch notes that throughout his political career Pericles did not attend meetings or social functions. When Pericles went to such an event, he went to the wedding of Euryptolemus's family. However, she left shortly after the ceremony was over, slowly avoiding the wedding.

Plutarch describes Pericles' social interactions with the port of Salamis: a special port in Athens that was only ever used for special functions. Perkins won the Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Award in 1974 and graduated from Fairport High School in 1976.

Perkins graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1980 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in armor.

He completed Ranger and Airborne schools. He served in armored assignments ranging from platoon leader to battalion and brigade staff positions.

Perkins was the commander of the 1st Battalion, 63rd Armored Regiment from 1996 to 1998. The battalion served in Macedonia and participated in the United Nations mission to monitor Macedonia's borders with Albania, Kosovo and Serbia. Perkins graduated from the Naval War College in 1999 with a master's degree.

In 2003, Perkins commanded the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division during the invasion of Iraq. His unit was the first to cross the border and reach Baghdad's central government areas. Perkins was featured prominently in the book Thunder Run: The Armored Strike to Capture Baghdad and received a Silver Star for his part in the raid.

Perkins was Executive Assistant to the Vice President of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 2004 and 2005. From 2005 to 2007, he headed the Multinational Joint Training Command in Germany. The man who shaped not only the future of Army doctrine, but also how all services will fight in the future, what the complex wars of the coming decades will look like, doesn't even plan to join the Army.

It was a chance trip to the United States Naval Academy that led General David Perkins to consider the Army. So just off to college and some life experiences.

The next 42 years would unfold in an enviable journey into the rigors of West Point, requiring armor and infantry training, missions in post-Cold War Germany and the post-Soviet Balkans, a brilliant and daring race to capture Baghdad during the invasion of 2003., years later, then-US involvement in Iraq, then leading top Army commands to shape future forces.

His last assignment was to lead Army training and counsel to design and craft a multidomain warfare concept that points to a future of complex, rapid warfare that integrates land, sea, air, space, and cyber operations.

Future commanders will be racing for time, consuming information to make decisions in seconds that their predecessors took hours or even days.

But the teen scout wasn't thinking much of a military future in the early 1970s, when a trip to visit an aunt in Washington, DC, took him out for a seafood lunch and a short tour of the Naval Academy.

He returned to Rochester, New York, intrigued. His father served a few years in the Navy during World War II, but after the war he settled down to teaching. After some research, young Perkins, an avid hiker and camper, decided the Army was a great fit.

Perkins said in an interview with the Army Times. "They don't necessarily act as professionally as we preach now."

His younger brother, two years old and going to the Naval Academy to work as a Navy aviator, finds him in the crowd at the end of the day, his shaved head giving the distinction of a deeply peeled summer face. I went water skiing.

It was there that another young lieutenant, James Pasquaret, met Perkins. Pasquarette, now a major general, served as Perkins' executive officer in 1985. He marveled at his fellow lieutenant's thirst for knowledge.

Later, Perkins attended infantry officers' school, a rarity for an armored officer. It was an early wrinkle in a path that could lead to his future commands.
